Jiro49 Posted July 14, 2012 Report Posted July 14, 2012 Does anyone have examples of standing utsuri? Does standing indicate that its as pronounced as the hamon? Thanks! Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted July 14, 2012 Report Posted July 14, 2012 There are some marginal images found on Sho shin's website. Look under Ichimonji and Ko Osafune. Not as pronounced as hamon, but you can see it from a distance and there's no mistaking what you're seeing. Quote
Toryu2020 Posted July 15, 2012 Report Posted July 15, 2012 "Hada wa tatsu" "utsuri wa tatsu" Think "out-standing" rather than standing up, meaning prominent. Hada that is tatsu is a clear and prominent feature it catches the eye. Utsuri can be very hard to see or it may be visible from across the room... -t Quote
Jiro49 Posted July 15, 2012 Author Report Posted July 15, 2012 Ok, thanks.. That makes sense. The reason I am asking is I have a blade signed naomune with a strange hamon and in its present polish you can see about half of the blade. At first I thought hitatsura but I see a thin suguba komidare plus it looks like utsuri coming down from the shinogi but it outlined with bright nei..? Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted July 15, 2012 Report Posted July 15, 2012 it looks like utsuri coming down from the shinogi but it outlined with bright nei..? If you mean this sword? > http://www.nihontomessageboard.com/nmb/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=13331 , I'm not seeing utsuri. This looks more like hitatsura. Which makes more sense when you say lined with nie. Signed swords can become a source of frustration especially for newer collectors as they try to make the sword fit the signature. Forget the mei, use kantei. Quote
Jiro49 Posted July 15, 2012 Author Report Posted July 15, 2012 Point taken! Thank you.. I have noticed a thin komidare, but only one side shows hitatsura? Quote
