Forgot to mention that this Gunto was taken from a senior officer, I put on a blue/brown tassel as the red/brown had been used as a "Dog collar" and long lost :steamed:

Hi Roy

Interseting mon,I think the lower characterl is Ishidatami ( paving stones) Haynes Jjapanese Family Crests give Takaya,Hiroano, Udono, Yoshimaru and,Tsuchia as family names.

The upper character could be Ichi??

Good evening Roy,

As far as I am aware, the protocol for naming Kamon is as follows

Maruni - Within a circle

Ichino Ji - The Kanji character Ichi (One)

Mitsu - Three

Ishi - Stone(s) whether they are paving stones or blocks is not clear but they are always square.

There occurs a varient of "Mitsu Tate Ishi" which is a collection of three rectangular paving stone or blocks a little bit like tatami in shape.

Babelfish is an interesting tool....

I'll PM you some links to get you going in the right direction.
