Lindus Posted June 18, 2012 Author Report Posted June 18, 2012 Forgot to mention that this Gunto was taken from a senior officer, I put on a blue/brown tassel as the red/brown had been used as a "Dog collar" and long lost Roy Quote
tony edmunds Posted June 18, 2012 Report Posted June 18, 2012 Hi Roy Interseting mon,I think the lower characterl is Ishidatami ( paving stones) Haynes Jjapanese Family Crests give Takaya,Hiroano, Udono, Yoshimaru and,Tsuchia as family names. The upper character could be Ichi?? Regards Tony Quote
Lindus Posted June 18, 2012 Author Report Posted June 18, 2012 Hi Tony It is a classic "Ichi" character. What does the combination mean? Roy Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted June 19, 2012 Report Posted June 19, 2012 Morning Roy, I've heard this Kamon referred to as Maruni Ichino Ji Mitsu Ishi. Cheers Quote
Lindus Posted June 19, 2012 Author Report Posted June 19, 2012 Good morning Malcolm Cannot work out the meaning of that, tried Bablefish coverting back into Japanese but that did not work.?? Roy Quote
Baka Gaijin Posted June 19, 2012 Report Posted June 19, 2012 Good evening Roy, As far as I am aware, the protocol for naming Kamon is as follows Maruni - Within a circle Ichino Ji - The Kanji character Ichi (One) Mitsu - Three Ishi - Stone(s) whether they are paving stones or blocks is not clear but they are always square. There occurs a varient of "Mitsu Tate Ishi" which is a collection of three rectangular paving stone or blocks a little bit like tatami in shape. Babelfish is an interesting tool.... I'll PM you some links to get you going in the right direction. Pip Pip... Quote
