Drago Posted March 29, 2012 Report Posted March 29, 2012 Hi, I hope this is the right place... What I'd like to know is: Military sword belts have that strap that has the clip or loop at the end to hook your sword to. But that strap usually also has a hook at the top (where it it fixed to the belt). What purpose does that hook serve? Sample of a replica: http://hikishop.net/wwii-Japanese-ija-s ... p-136.html Thanks. Quote
kusunokimasahige Posted March 29, 2012 Report Posted March 29, 2012 Here is an image of a full belt : On ebay someone states the hook is to place the sword in a Reagin position but what that means I dont know : http://www.ebay.com/itm/WW2-Japanese-OF ... 4180038391 Maybe fellow board member Gunto can help us out here. george trotter Posted March 30, 2012 Report Posted March 30, 2012 The regain position is used when the wearer wants the sword higher up, actually on the waist...that is, he doesn't want the sword hanging low and getting to swing and tangle in legs/objects as he walks etc. Put simply, the sword can hang low on the end of the hanger strap, or the wearer can bring the scabbard loop up (still attached to the end of the hanger) and slip the saya ring onto the regain hook. This makes the sword sit higher/firmer and makes it easier to do tasks. Hope this helps, Quote
