Rodenbacher Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 Some years ago I bought this Tsuba for some few Euros and I never thought about it as a good purchase. But now I really want to know your opinion about it. It is obviously made of iron and coated in brass with a very coarse surface. Dimensions are 8.2 x 8 x 0.2 cm Any idea which school made Tsuba like that? Quote
christianmalterre Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 This one somehow reminds me to an Tempo one which was formerly decorated with an kind of Hokori-Yoshiro stylism.. This may be equally the reason why it bears this colouration/abrasive here. Christian Quote
Geraint Posted March 23, 2012 Report Posted March 23, 2012 Really not my field but toward the bottom of the tsuba, between the nakago ana and the rim, is what looks a little like gomoku zogan. I wonder if the intention was to do this to the whole tsuba but the work was heated a little too high and the applied metals flashed over the surface? It seems unlikely to me that the mimi would be covered so well if this were the case. Just a thought. Cheers Quote
Soshin Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 Hi Rodenbacher, No this tsuba doesn't look like anything I have ever seen. It must have been heavily altered at some point. I collect the Tempo school and this doesn't look like at all the work of that school. Thanks for posting photos. Maybe someone else can give it a try. Yours truly, David Stiles Quote
Lorenzo Posted March 26, 2012 Report Posted March 26, 2012 Do the colours of the picture are accurate? Or is it dark brown with yellow encrustations? Quote
Rodenbacher Posted March 26, 2012 Author Report Posted March 26, 2012 No, the colours are accurate. Quote
