Some years ago I bought this Tsuba for some few Euros and I never thought about it as a good purchase. But now I really want to know your opinion about it. It is obviously made of iron and coated in brass with a very coarse surface.

Dimensions are 8.2 x 8 x 0.2 cm

Any idea which school made Tsuba like that?

Really not my field but toward the bottom of the tsuba, between the nakago ana and the rim, is what looks a little like gomoku zogan. I wonder if the intention was to do this to the whole tsuba but the work was heated a little too high and the applied metals flashed over the surface? It seems unlikely to me that the mimi would be covered so well if this were the case. Just a thought.

Hi Rodenbacher,

No this tsuba doesn't look like anything I have ever seen. It must have been heavily altered at some point. I collect the Tempo school and this doesn't look like at all the work of that school. Thanks for posting photos. Maybe someone else can give it a try. :?:

David Stiles
