Reinier Posted April 11, 2007 Report Posted April 11, 2007 i came across this katana in koshirae: http://www.aoi-art.com/sword/katana/06437.html it needs a polish but i really like the shape of the blade and the koshirae is a nice bonus. i could suggest te following deal to aoi art: let them polish it and send it to the nbthk for appraisal and if it passes hozon token pay for the blade, polish and hozon token and if it doesn't don't pay for anything. they guarantee the hozon token so they should be okay with that deal. that way i would have a nice hozon token blade for a very nice price without any risks. pcfarrar Posted April 11, 2007 Report Posted April 11, 2007 It's not bad, but polishing and papers will really add to the cost. You'd probably be better off going for something like this: http://www.nihonto.us/TAKAHASHI%20NAGANOBU%20KATANA.htm Quote
Reinier Posted April 11, 2007 Author Report Posted April 11, 2007 i've seen that blade and in my opinion it could use a polish too it does have a very interesting hamon Quote
nagamaki - Franco Posted April 11, 2007 Report Posted April 11, 2007 that way i would have a nice hozon token blade for a very nice price without any risks. There are risks whenever you buy any sword, including papered swords. Quote
Henry Wilson Posted April 11, 2007 Report Posted April 11, 2007 Just say that the sword did NOT pass Hozon, I think that it could lead to a lot of bother. :x Quote
Brian Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 I doubt that any dealer will do that. If they are sure it will paper, then the reason they haven't sent it themselves is that they want to avoid the hassle, cost and time that it takes. So if they do complete the process, they are firstly going to want extra compensation for the trouble, and secondly the sword would probably be worth more than just the sum of the work. Sounds a simple request, but I don't know a single reasonable dealer that would take you up on that. Plus..before they start the work, anyone would require part payment to ensure you keep your side of the deal. Just my 2c. Brian Quote
Henry Wilson Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 Must agree with you there Brain. Brings me back to this one. http://militaria.co.za/nihontomessageboard/viewtopic.php?t=1140 Quote
Reinier Posted April 12, 2007 Author Report Posted April 12, 2007 maybe you're right. i've mailed Louis Skebo with some question about that wakizashi. it has an area of open grain. would you call this a flaw? Quote

Brian Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 Nice one Reinier, and good for you for taking advice and doing things the right way..asking questions, buying from known dealers and not looking for the $200 bargain :D Enjoy it. Brian PS - Louis..I assume Henry's cheque is in the mail? :D  Quote
Henry Wilson Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 Congratulations Reiner! Looks very nice. When you can I would love to see a close-up of the fittings. Enjoy and one more bit of advice, stay away from the uchiko as it could dull a nice new polish. Quote
w.y.chan Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 This one is a good entry level famous make, if genuine I can see a profit http://www.aoi-art.com/sword/wakizashi/07107.html Quote
Reinier Posted April 17, 2007 Author Report Posted April 17, 2007 in the end i've decided to cancel the purchase of the wakizashi mentioned above. my cancellation has nothing to do with louis or the sword. it's only because of my inexperience. i've found my tastes and interests still change daily and i'm not ready yet to buy a sword. sorry louis for all the trouble and thanks for your understanding.
