Drago Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 Hi, just found this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/230730895999 I currently don't have any free money, but I'm still interested. What is your opnion? Genuine? Condition? Also what I'd like to know: Has that blade been shortened? When I look at the pictures it seems that the engraved flower (or whatever that is) and the details on the other side will be covered by the Habaki... It seems strange to intentionally engrave it so it's hidden... Cheers! Quote
Tokaido Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 Hello Tobias, since the rendai (Lotus-flower) below the futatsu-bi will be covered by the habaki you can assume the nakago beeing machi okuri. In fact I can't see any ha machi remaining => sword suffered great loss of width during polishing. Not a great deal in my opinion. Greetings Andreas Quote
Surfson Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 It has been shortened by roughly the length between the two holes in the tang. Despite the lack of hamachi, it still has considerable fumbari, so yes, it is quite tired, as the thin carvings indicate. It was once a nice signed and dated muromachi bizen blade. The mei is obscured by rust pitting. It appears that the kissaki has been reshaped as well, and I would be concerned about the condition of the boshi. Quote
runagmc Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 Despite the lack of hamachi, it still has considerable fumbari Better term is profile taper. Do a forum search for funbari/fumbari for past discussions about this... Quote
Surfson Posted January 15, 2012 Report Posted January 15, 2012 Actually Adam, I think I used it in the way that Nakahara uses it and Grey Doffin explained in the discussion that you suggested that I search for. I think that both meanings are acceptable. Quote
