nihonto1001 Posted November 7, 2011 Report Posted November 7, 2011 Hi Folks: I am going to be listing this sword on ebay. Since 10% of the proceeds will go the NMB, I am looking for input on improving the item's description. Mainly, I am not sure of the school. To me it looks to be Yamato den, probably from the Muromachi period. Am I way off on this? http://www.onihonto.com/Koto_Wakizashi.html Thanks ahead of time, Jon Quote
runagmc Posted November 7, 2011 Report Posted November 7, 2011 Based on the pics, I'm not sure this is suriage. Can you elaborate on why you think it is? Also, I think it would be nearly impossible to give a solid guess about school... that being said, if I had to guess from the pics I might guess sue-seki mass produced... I don't think you should list any school on your auction description, because you don't have any documentation to support your guess... PS: Unless you need to sell it quick, why list it on ebay? Why not just list it here? Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted November 7, 2011 Report Posted November 7, 2011 Jon, I agree with Adam - your blade isn't suriage at all. What makes you think that it is? And I also agree that you should post it right here on NMB; check out viewforum.php?f=4. Ken Quote
nihonto1001 Posted November 8, 2011 Author Report Posted November 8, 2011 Ubu, seems to be the consensus. Why does it looks this way to you guys? I thought old+no signature=osuriage in most cases. Thanks, Jon Quote
runagmc Posted November 8, 2011 Report Posted November 8, 2011 No, I'm afraid it's a bit more complex than that. I think you can safely assume this blade is most likely ubu and mumei... edit: if you look through this list, there are a few good article on identifying suriage... as well as many other great articles.. http://www.ksky.ne.jp./~sumie99/information.html Quote
nihonto1001 Posted November 8, 2011 Author Report Posted November 8, 2011 For my own edification, how did you arrive at that conclusion? Thanks, Jon Quote
runagmc Posted November 8, 2011 Report Posted November 8, 2011 Jon, I edited my post above with a good link for some explanation... Quote
nihonto1001 Posted November 9, 2011 Author Report Posted November 9, 2011 nice link. Thanks JOn Quote
Jacques Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 Hi, Seller says o-suriage/mumei and below : Nakago ubu, where is the mistake ? Quote
nihonto1001 Posted November 10, 2011 Author Report Posted November 10, 2011 Hi Jacques: I looked at it in a different light after hearing the other opinions. I changed it on the site, after closely observing the nie line terminating into the notch. Jon Quote
Jacques Posted November 10, 2011 Report Posted November 10, 2011 Hi I looked at it in a different light after hearing the other opinions. I'm sorry but a sword cannot be Ubu and O suriage. It's one or the other. Quote
