Kurihara Akihide was given this award for his service to the country as a member of the Diet. Hoshuku Koki Ni Sen Ryoppyaku Ichi Nen Go Gatsu Kichi Jitsu Celebration Lucky day in May, 1941 This tanto was most likely made to celebrate a birthday or other such happy occasion. Quote
