Lindus Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 Ex gunto mounted sword. Opinions please. Mei looks odd related to Mekugi ana. Roy Quote
george trotter Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 Roy san, I'd be interested in what Chris Bowen says, but I have seen this strangely altered nakago shape before...it was on a Kyugunto mounted sword...the shaving of the nakago mune with the small diagonal cut on the jiri was to accommodate the narrowing sweep of the kyugunto "sabre-type" hilt and downward curved hilt ending. Reading your nakago, I would say the large hole is the original (slightly enlarged later at least once), then a small amount of suriage and machi-okuri leading to requiring the next hole up, then the small top hole for the kyugunto alterations. As to which generation...the original hole is placed a little "higher" than for both 1st and 2nd (IMHO) and "Masa" seems too different to both also...just my observations...I am frequently incorrect. Regards, George. Quote
cabowen Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 here are signatures of the shodai and nidai. Which one, if either, do you think it is? Quote
Mark Posted September 20, 2010 Report Posted September 20, 2010 looks nothing like either reference, spacing between 2 kanji of Yamato clearly different than references, Masa and Nori not close (at least to me) Quote
