masamori Posted May 27, 2010 Report Posted May 27, 2010 Hi, all, I was just wondering if you guys know of a sword smith; Minamoto Masamori who forged swords during the Mieji period, did a database search on him and did'nt find anything? I purchased one of his blades whilst in Japan, nice piece, it came with NBTHK Hozon certificate. Thanks. Quote
Grey Doffin Posted May 27, 2010 Report Posted May 27, 2010 Hi, I have a Hosokawa Masamori in my index who worked around Meiji; don't know if this is who you're asking after. Any case, if you search my Index of Japanese Sword Literature on the JSS/US website, you'll find him and references that contain information. Grey Quote
masamori Posted May 27, 2010 Author Report Posted May 27, 2010 Hi Grey, Thanks for your reply and referral to the JSS website. Unfiortunately he's not listed. The blade was forged in 1869 could he have changed his signature after the restoration, was that common practice? Thanks. Quote
watsonmil Posted May 27, 2010 Report Posted May 27, 2010 Dear Damien, 1. Please sign your posts with your name as per the NMB rules. 2. The first rule of collecting Nihonto and related artifacts is to keep in mind the Japanese ( artisans/craftsmen at least ) change their names more often than most people change their underware. ...
