Ronald Aguirre Posted July 6 Report Posted July 6 Hello everyone, a local seller is selling a WW2 bringback sword. It’s missing the tip. They said this is restorable. In your opinion, do you think it’s restorable? Quote
Tensho Posted July 6 Report Posted July 6 Restorable for a couple thousand dollars yeah. This is assuming its nihonto(and worthwhile to polish) and not non-traditionally made. May possibly be a zoheito w/ that bo-hi Quote
O koumori Posted July 6 Report Posted July 6 Can you post a picture of the nakago (tang), and one of the entire blade? Quote
ROKUJURO Posted July 6 Report Posted July 6 ....and all photos made on a plain dark/black background, in a dark room with spotlight! Quote
Ronald Aguirre Posted July 6 Author Report Posted July 6 (edited) Okay! I will get more pics from the seller if possible. It is an authentic nihonto, I know that. If it’s restorable, I think it’s worth buying. The rest of the blade I do believe is restorable, with no major flaws. It’s just the big piece missing on the tip that makes me concerned. I told the seller I would try to get opinions from experts on if it is restorable and then we could talk about it. But with that much of the tip missing, im shocked you all think it’s still restorable? Edited July 6 by Ronald Aguirre Quote
Grey Doffin Posted July 6 Report Posted July 6 Hi Ron, Depends on how much boshi there is; better pix might show the answer. If there weren't the bo hi a polisher could bring the mune forward to lessen the amount the kissaki would have to lose; the hi complicate the matter. Grey 1 Quote
ckaiserca Posted July 6 Report Posted July 6 For what you will pay to have this sword restored, you could buy a sword in better condition. I would pass on this one. 1 1 Quote
John C Posted July 6 Report Posted July 6 Ron: Here is a diagram of what Grey was talking about. Getting a picture of the boshi will be important. John C. 2 Quote
