The seller calls it a “police sword” because it is a shorter blade. I’m guessing pre-WW2. But is it possible the blade is traditionally made from a Wakizashi? Or is the blade probably machine made with this style of sword? Thanks in all advance! Quote
Scogg Posted July 1 Report Posted July 1 Hi @Jeff Simmons1012, I’m going to relocate this one to the military swords of Japan section. This does indeed appear to be a police sword. These swords are almost always machine made, and I’ve even heard that some are not properly hardened steel. All the best, -Sam 2 Quote
Conway Posted July 1 Report Posted July 1 Jeff, In the second photo (3 of7), it looks like the blade is threaded into the pommel of the handle. Usually this would indicate a non-traditionally made blade, as is most common in these police swords. 2 Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted July 2 Report Posted July 2 The emblem indicates a Police Patrolman & Sergeant sword. Like the other guys said, if the blade were a converted waki, you would see a bamboo peg, a mekugi, through the side of the handle, holding the blade in place. The police swords were usually shorter, like this one. It is very uncommon to find a full-length gunto sized police sword, though they can be seen in reference books. 1 Quote
