jeep54 Posted May 19 Report Posted May 19 Hello Can anyone tell me the age of this sword. It was a direct vet PTO bring back. I cannot find any markings on it. Thank you Quote
ChrisW Posted May 19 Report Posted May 19 Without seeing the blade itself, it is hard to estimate an age based on the nakago (tang) by itself. For the best results, share some pictures of the blade without any fittings on it with some measurements as well. Buuuut.. based on the crispness of the yasurime (the filemarks on the nakago) and the lack of dark patina, I would hazard to guess that this blade is probably no more than 200 years of age. Quote
Grey Doffin Posted May 19 Report Posted May 19 Hi Charles, If you take pictures on a dark background we'll be able to see more detail. Grey Quote
tosogu_eu Posted May 20 Report Posted May 20 My 2 cent; this is a 19th cent. Ubu Wakizashi, mumei with some below average fittings and in a rather rough condition. Ubu (not shortened) and mumei (not signed) together with a rather late work around 1850 or even meiji; it does likely not hold grear value. Quote
