William Jennings Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago Hello everyone! I have the chance to buy this odachi. It’s Mumei. Nagasa of just over 35 inches. Not in great polish but no rust. The fittings are lower quality and in poor condition and may not be salvagable. It feels like a good sword but with low quality fittings. I think restoration on a piece like this would be around $5000. I haven’t been collecting long. Only a couple years. My question is how rare are these odachi? I couldn’t find anymore online for sale to compare it to. Just modern reproductions. My biggest question is what is a fair offer to make the owner for this odachi in this condition and considering the $5000 it will cost to restore? I just want to make him an honest offer and not cheat him. If you’d rather not say publicly, feel free to private message me. Thanks for your help! Quote
Rawa Posted 4 hours ago Report Posted 4 hours ago (edited) Is this modern repro or showa? Single mekugi ana in this mountings. Koshirae is really bad. Tsukamaki made by unskilled hand. Fresh rust. Imo this piece would be worth more as bare blade. It have visible division of yakiba/ji shinogi-ji? Edited 3 hours ago by Rawa Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted 3 hours ago Report Posted 3 hours ago Unless it is really cheap (hundreds of dollars), best to wait for something better to come along. This is really crude and doesn't really offer much else beyond the size. Quote
