RM1704 Posted March 16 Report Posted March 16 Hello I recently bought a new katana. I'm fairly certain it's a Gimei katana, but I'd still like to get your opinions. What do you think? Thanks for your help! Quote
ROKUJURO Posted March 16 Report Posted March 16 Indeed the blade seems to bear a false signature (GI MEI) and added date. There was another (authentic ?) signature before which was erased or made illegible. The signature may be wrong, but it could still be a nice blade. Please sign all posts with at least a first name plus an initial so we could address you politely. It is a rule here. 1 Quote
Ray Singer Posted March 16 Report Posted March 16 Appears to be a gimei of Yasutsuna with a Tenryaku (天暦) 2 date - a day in the 8th month of the year 948. Best regards, Ray 2 Quote
RM1704 Posted March 16 Author Report Posted March 16 Thank you so much for your replies. If you look closely, you can see that a signature has been removed. I think it's a sword from the Edo period. I find the story behind it very interesting. Unfortunately, I can't seem to make the old signature legible anymore. Perhaps I should try taking a picture with a flash. Of course, I would have been happier if it had been an original Yasutsuna sword. Thank you, Jean and Ray. Best regards, Raphael Quote
ROKUJURO Posted March 16 Report Posted March 16 Raphael, can we please see a photo of the MACHI (=notches) of the blade just above the NAKAGO? In some images I get the impression that they are not on the same level. Please use a dark, non-reflective background and a dark room with spotlights. As you can see, the contrast is not good enough in the above pictures to show the HAMON well. Quote
