Stropp Posted January 16 Report Posted January 16 Purchasing this from a vendor and my little research leads me to believe this is not a Izumi no Kami Kanesada. It is in gunto mounts, nick in the blade makes me think it saw use. Quote
The Forest Ninja Posted January 16 Report Posted January 16 Most blades probably saw use at one time or another. 1 Quote

Stropp Posted January 16 Author Report Posted January 16 Thank you John!! Yes, that is the ask. Was told this is a 1600’s blade but Bruce pointing to another smith, unsure now. Quote
Jussi Ekholm Posted January 16 Report Posted January 16 To my eye signature seems to be 和泉守兼定作 Izumi no Kami Kanesada saku. I would dare to say it is not "the" Mino Kanesada. However there seem to be 4 other Kanesada (兼定) smiths who had the title Izumi no Kami. Unfortunately I am on my phone and away from my references for the weekend so I cannot check if I have a signature example for any of the lesser known ones. 1 1 Quote
Stropp Posted January 16 Author Report Posted January 16 Thank you Jussi! It is being sold as such but also a note that it may be Gimei. I know very little about very little. Quote
Mark S. Posted January 17 Report Posted January 17 My initial reaction is that the Kane kanji with the 5 lower ‘strokes’ seems a bit ‘odd’. It is usually 4 strokes… but I am far from an expert in this area. 1 Quote
