Any info, suggestion, advice greatly appreciated.

Blade is truly mesmerizing I cant stop admiring.

Mei translates to

Bishū Fukuyama Ju Kuniyoshi saku.

Neighbor had it put away for 20 years he got from a house he worked being demolished after the sole owner who was a high rankingWW2Vet passed. Seems like an old blade mounted on military hardware.

Also intrested in refinishing since it shows some black stains a few inches under tip of blade.

Who,where, how can do this.

Thank you for your time and expertise.

Hi Galo,

Great find, there.  Yes, the blade is older than WWII.  I cannot tell you how old, but maybe some of the other guys can give you an idea.

Those frustrating black stains do not come out without a professional polish.  There are a few guys that do it, but it will cost over $2,000.  If your friend wants to spend that much we can point him to someone.  In the meantime, here is a good page on care and cleaning: Japanese Sword Care

Nice one. Congratulations. As Bruce said above, DONT TRY ANY TYPE OF CLEANING OR REFINISHING, until you have read and reread the link above and had some more knowledgeable people chime in. Thank you for sharing. MikeR

Galo, looks like could be this smith (from Sesko):

KUNIYOSHI (国吉), Keian (慶安, 1648-1652), Bingo – “Bingo Fukuyama-jū Kuniyoshi saku” (備後福山住 国吉作), real name Kodama Tōshirō (児玉藤四郎)
