rodrig4 Posted November 8 Report Posted November 8 Hello. Here is a signature that I don't understand, as it's suriage. The first two kanji seem to be yama and moto, but the rest of the signature is unclear to me. Perhaps you could determine if it's a mei or a gimei. Thank you in advance. Sincerely, RG Quote
Jussi Ekholm Posted November 8 Report Posted November 8 My guess is 山本武蔵守 Yamamoto Musashi no Kami and rest of the signature is cut off. Quote
ROKUJURO Posted November 8 Report Posted November 8 (edited) A better photo (vertically tip-upwards) with a dark background would help. Light source from the side. Edited November 8 by ROKUJURO Quote

Source de lumière latérale. Good evening. I apologize for my late reply. Here are some photos. I'm also sending you the signature because the last part is missing, which is why I'm asking for your help. One of your colleagues is leaning towards Kanenaka or Katsuyoshi. Sincerely, RG Quote
ROKUJURO Posted November 19 Report Posted November 19 Much better Rodriguez, but with a DARK, NON-REFLECTING BACKGROUND and photos NOT taken at an angle, there will be some improvement. Cutting-off a part of the NAKAGO would be called SURIAGE in Japanese, in case a part of the MEI is remaining. In any case, Jusii has read the signature correctly, so now you can research the smith. And of course, we are curious to see the full blade! Quote
