WTB - Katana / Wakizashi within UK

Hi all,

 

I am looking for items for sale within the UK, for avoidance of any complicated customs processes.

 

I am a collector of all kinds of arms & armor, mostly kukris, moro pieces, and some british napoleonic swords. I have previously owned a wakizashi and tanto prior to the sword ban, which i now deeply regret selling.

 

I'll never be a serious collector, mostly because finances and time simply do not allow it, and also because my collecting interests are so broad, but i am keen for a representative example of nihonto for my collection.

 

I am looking for a UK based seller, who has a suitable item for sale. I would be looking for:

- A wakizashi or Katana

- Papers not necessary

- Ideally in Koshirae, but not a deal breaker if only in shirasaya

- Blade in sufficient enough polish to show the qualities of the hamon at least

- Would receive payment via paypal goods and services/

 

Budget would be anywhere between £800 - £1500, which is obviously why i am aware i have to be flexible within this price range. I simply want a nice example of this art form that is affordable for me and pleasing to admire visually and in the hand. Things like the blade being mumei, or even with a fake signature are not a problem for me.

 

I am aware this probably goes against the methods and collecting habits of the serious collectors on this forum, but hope you can understand the desire of a person with limited financial means to want to own an example of one of these wonderful swords.

 

I am originally from the midlands and so plan to attend an upcoming birmingham fair. It has been many years since i have attended one and so was curious if the sellers there would be likely to have many items within my price range? I can find a multitude of suitable items in my price bracket from Japanese sellers on ebay, but i am nervous of a customs seizure in this current climate.
