ottou812 Posted March 16, 2010 Report Posted March 16, 2010 There was an episode of White Collar where one of the characters talked about having a Go sword worth over $100k. Although it was a brief mention, it was interesting that whoever wrote the script did at least some research into who were the big names in nihonto and their values. Quote

Stephen Posted March 17, 2010 Author Report Posted March 17, 2010 It was just ok, keep waiting for him to say ALIKAZEEM!! (sp). He used clips of few old samurai movies, SS ect that was not in tune to what he was talking about, showed one smith didnt catch his name but our own Paul Martin was there tellling him what was going on in the forge. also relied on cartoon telling the Story of Musashi Miyamoto that id like to see in its full showing. some nice shots of the town and Masashi station id go to if i was ever in Nippon. if your surfing and it comes up it will kill a hour or two, id not go out of my way to find it. Pete Klein Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 Stephen -- yeah, my thoughts also. I watched it but doubt I'll bother to record it to re-view. It's really more on philosophy but way too long of a view. One hour would have been more than sufficient. PS: I believe it's on again this Saturday afternoon. Quote
SwordGuyJoe Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 My thoughts too. I think the show would have been much more entertaining if they would have chosen to avoid having an actor as the focal point. I enjoyed learning about Mushashi (as I haven't read anything of any great detail on him) and seeing a modern forge in action, but hearing that guy go on about how he is beginning to understand the spirit of the samurai because he took a vacation in Japan and is 1/4 Japanese kind of put me off. Similarly, I feel I am in tune with the Mayan's and their way of life because I saw the movie "2012". Quote
cspage Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 Stephen, the phrase is "Allez Cuisine!" (Start Cooking, roughly, French, as you probably recognize) It could have been a better show. It definitely wasn't a documentary. Everyone here is pretty much on the same page about this, including moi. Colin Quote
