Sukaira Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 This might be a known thing, and lesson learned for me in the future...however for anyone that is on the fence about purchasing online from Aoi Art - ask for real photos/video. I recently purchased a seemingly nice wakizashi (right under $10k) that was displayed in the image scans as having a nice milky sashikomi-ish style hamon with a pleasing jihada, rated with Tsuruta's "jyojyosaku" rating. Received it a few days ago and knew something was off immediately, polish was weird, jigane was very white and blurry, a world away from the image scan. I sent it over to Moses Becerra and seems the entire blade was acid washed/etched. Needless to say its getting entirely repolished with him now, but wanted to give anyone new to here or that website that this was extremely misleading. 1 1 Quote
Lewis B Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 You're not the first and certainly won't be the last to complain that the photos/scans are not representative of the blade received. Those buyers also had to send their blades to a togishi for a full polish, which in Europe is far from ideal. For me this is very dishonest, especially at AOI prices. I will not buy from him unless I see the sword in person. Can you not return the sword to Tsuruta san? There should be an inspection period. You'll be out the return shipping but that may be a worthwhile price to pay for a lesson learned. Can you post some photos and a link to the blade on AOI? Quote
Sukaira Posted July 15 Author Report Posted July 15 I probably could return it, but I think the blade is good enough to polish into something really nice, so I am keeping it and having it re-polished with Moses. I can't link the blade since Tsuruta removes the page once it is purchased. However check the pics below: 1 Quote
Sukaira Posted July 15 Author Report Posted July 15 Might be hard to tell from my photo, but the polish is definitely not good at all. Quote
Sukaira Posted July 15 Author Report Posted July 15 The jihada itself is great, underneath this crazy polish are good "bones" for sure, at least IMO Quote
Rivkin Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 Acid wash in general can't accent jihada, so it was polished. In regards to the hamon - is it shinshinto? Quote
Sukaira Posted July 16 Author Report Posted July 16 @Rivkin yeah that's why I am excited to have it properly polished, as the jihada itself looks like it has great potential. This one is Koto and Soshu Quote

Sukaira Posted July 16 Author Report Posted July 16 Im hoping so! If you saw it in hand, you would definitely agree something is "off" with the polish as is Quote
Jacques Posted July 16 Report Posted July 16 Once more, never buy a sword without having really seen it. 1 Quote
