Great Masterpieces Japanese Sword Book NBTHK-Homma

 

     This rare set of two volumes was published by the NBTHK under Dr. Homma's supervision in 1982. One volume features incredibly detailed photographs of what Dr. Homma regarded as the greatest Japanese swords in the history of this art, along with descriptions in Japanese. The second volume features descriptions of these swords translated into the English language for those of us who have not mastered Japanese. Because of resolution limitations of the website, the images presented here in this listing cannot capture the incredible detail presented in book images. Printed in Japan more than forty years ago, the quality of these books and their binding (which I believe is silk) is exceptional. The condition of the two volumes is excellent, with the English translation retaining its slip cover as shown.

     If you would like to see what the greatest Japanese swords in history look like without being able to hold them in your hand, this book that shows the finest details of the hada and hamon of the illustrated swords is about as close as you can get. It is a truly wonderful set of books to learn about the workmanship of the very finest Japanese swords. These books are offered with the cost of shipping included to folks in the contiguous U.S.

Awesome books. But does need to be noted that there are 2 Japanese volumes making up the set of these books....you are missing the other Japanese photo one.
Then there is a rare additional volume with the English explanations, and that you do have there. So half the 2 book set, plus the additional volume.
Worth checking out there what's available, as I daresay this will affect value and they are out there complete for considerably less. Sorry, but needed to be mentioned.

     It has been too long since I pulled this set out. I have two of the English translation volumes, and thought I had two complete sets. I will revise  what I have listed to show I have only the English explanations volume for sale. Thank you very much for your helpful input, which has perhaps saved me from foolishly splitting up my set!

      Please let me update this post to say that I am offering only the English descriptions/ explanations --Single Volume -- of the three volume Masterpieces set, which is apparently the most difficult to find of the three volumes. The price for this single volume, with the English translation that sets out what is illustrated in the two Japanese language volumes, in slipcase and excellent condition as pictured, is $350 or best offer.
