drac2k Posted June 8 Report Posted June 8 This is what I believe to be a late war Japanese Katana with an incorrect handle,It has the 3 piece Japanese Naval Tsuba that appears to match the sword;all of them look to be numbered "80." I think that the mismatched handle is for the army katana. I could be completely wrong and this could possibly be a fake imitation Any help would be appreciated. Quote
ChrisW Posted June 8 Report Posted June 8 The blade is an "anti-rust" steel gunto. I believe this due to the fact that the nakago is as clean as it is and has the same higaki yasurime that I see on others of this steel-type. 2 Quote
drac2k Posted June 9 Author Report Posted June 9 Thank you for your reply! So can I assume from your answer that it is in fact a WW2 Katana.; are the fittings and the respective blade naval? Quote
Navy Posted June 9 Report Posted June 9 WW2 katana yes, the fittings are mixed: tsuka is army, with an unusual kabuto gane, while tsuba, seppa (maybe fuchi) and saya's ashi navy. Quote
