Jesta Posted May 12 Report Posted May 12 I got this as part of a set - I just wanted the tsuka and fuchi and kashira, but this came along too… I am trying to stabilise the rust, and get it cleaned up as much as I can, so any advice on that would be appreciated. Has anyone got any suggestions as to the origin, school, theme, etc? Also, why is the kogai ana so small, and then blocked off anyway? Seems like it would be too small to do anything with to start with. 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted May 12 Report Posted May 12 Kogai can be very small - but you are right there is a big size difference with the hitsu. The small one has some features of very early guards, the square edges and thin narrow profile. Perhaps the guard is very old and was decorated later? Under that thin layer of rust is a pretty guard waiting to show off again! 2 Quote
Spartancrest Posted June 8 Report Posted June 8 Update on the beautiful butterfly and vine tsuba. There is the remains of a signature there - it was well hidden under the rust. Any ideas? 2 1 Quote
Spartancrest Posted June 9 Report Posted June 9 3 hours ago, Franco said: How is this tsuba being restored, methods? Mainly using a bone awl to remove the rust and rubbing with a soft cotton cloth - nothing drastic as I don't want to damage the fine inlay. The brief answer is "elbow grease". 3 1 Quote
