Death-Ace Posted May 10, 2025 Report Posted May 10, 2025 Hi guys! Just wanted to share one more blade for review and one of my favorites as I hope back on the saddle into Nihonto. This blade appears to be an O-Wakizashi. I haven't taken exact measurements, but the nagasa appears to be about 24.5 in with a 4 inch nakago. Blade appears ubu. Definitely an interesting hada and hamon from what I can see. Polish is not the best (wartime, if not earlier), so bear with me. Hada appears to be mokume and the hamon appears to consist of jifu, packed with sunagashi, possible areas of kinship and looks to have a few areas of inazuma and rich jinie throughout. Hamon appears to be a variant of choji-midare or obusa-choji? Boshi is hard to see, but appears to be fully intact and of a yakitsume nature. The long peaks, although not apparent in some photographs, appears consistently on both sides throughout the blade. From what I can tell, possibly Muromachi, if not early Shinto? It looks consistent with some Bizen, or even Echizen school examples, but I'll leave that to the experts. Thank you and I hope you enjoy! Very Respectfully, Lev Quote
Scogg Posted May 10, 2025 Report Posted May 10, 2025 Hi Lev, Cool sword! I’ve always been attracted to these mumei older blades in WW2 fittings. I’ve had a few in my collection over the years. Tough to say much in its current condition, but when I zoom in on some of those photos I can see some activities in the steel. Do you have a good vertical photo of both sides of the nakago? And maybe one that highlights the boshi/kissaki area? All the best, -Sam 1 Quote
