I appear to have made an error with this difficult to read translation

Tomotsugu   Chohan (Choshu Nakai)
      友次           長藩
 

Something closer may be

Tomonobu

      友信

 

Any help would be appreciated

Hi Grev, the signature is really hard to read (that's why no one dares to reply). So I tried to find other similar tsuba for comparison. The transcription should be:

長藩 友次  -  Chōhan  Tomotsugu [+kaō]

It looks like a match to me especially the right hand mei

Good idea about looking for similar tsuba designs
