Squale69 Posted February 5, 2025 Report Posted February 5, 2025 Hello, Please let me know what you think of this belt + chain. Original or fake ? If someone has the ability to translate Kanjis on the leather part of the belt... Thanks for the feed-backs. P.A Quote
Gilles Posted February 5, 2025 Report Posted February 5, 2025 The sword belt seems to be legit but.....we have to keep in mind that a shop in Japan used to sale some for reenactment (Nakata) and those belt are now over 40 years old. About the chain, it's an original one, but, quite a lot of countries used some. My guess is that this chain is legit. 1 Quote

I think Gilles is correct that the belt has some age to it. It appears to me the thread used on the belt is a cotton or burlap weave. If it were a modern repro, it would certainly have been sewn with polyester thread since it is more readily available. You can also see a minor bit of fraying. John C. Quote
moriarty Posted February 6, 2025 Report Posted February 6, 2025 Greetings P.A, While I can't comment on the quality on the piece, the kanji embedded should read: 裡理部 吉川X (Internal Affairs Department, Yoshikawa ???) Can't see much of the last kanji to the bottom left (which should be the first name), hope this helps. 1 Quote

Guest When Necessary Posted February 8, 2025 Report Posted February 8, 2025 I'm afraid I think the chain might be modern. All originals I've seen have a main hook welded on the upper clip. The 'dangling hook' is for looping the chain up while not in use. Dee Quote
