Daniel Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 Hi I just bought a type 95 with a bent blade. What do you think? should I attempt to correct the bending or leave it as it is? Does these machine made blades snap very easily or should I give it a try and if so how do I do?My main concern about the bending is the risk of rust when sheated. Regards Daniel Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 That bend can be repaired easily. I don't even think you run a risk of shinai with that slight of bend. It can be done by you, however, I would have a polisher do it for you. He shouldn't charge much for that service. John Quote
Daniel Posted January 27, 2010 Author Report Posted January 27, 2010 What is shinai? I know of course it's a "sword" used in kendo but what's the meaning of the Word here? Thank you by the way for your answer Best regards Daniel Quote
John A Stuart Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 Wrinkles caused by compression of stretched metal when straightening a sword. John Quote
doug e lewis Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Hi Daniel, i had a katana [i am told late Kota, bundle sword of the style of the Uda school, but i have yet to get second, third opinions] with a slight bend. i thought of trying to straighten it myself, but in a moment of sanity, i asked my friend Mike Virgadamo, a sayashi, to look at it [his opinion about sword origin]. he very, very carefully and gently used one of wood vices and made it all better. no charge. unless you know what your doing, take it to a pro. or try it yourself -- nothing ventured, nothing gained. doug e Quote
