Hi,

Newbie needs help!

This sword guard looks real old but that's all I know.

Size is about 7.32 x 7.06 x 0.45 cm

Weight is 96.2g

Thanks!

Dee

Don't worry all.

Just saw the thread 'why?' in this section and these guard seem ten a penny. Mine is just plain and rusty with no pretty inlay. :(

Thanks anyhow

Welcome Dee. Not ten a penny - just a popular design. Plain iron tsuba are held in high esteem by the majority of collectors and by the samurai who used them.

I agree it looks old and a true period piece.

[The "Why?" thread just shows that many, many tsuba patterns are copied over a very long period of time - they wouldn't have persisted if they weren't liked.]

"Rusty" is one of my favourite words with tsuba :)

It has a decent size and shape, and it is not at all simple or boring and does not need any embellishment to be a nice TSUBA. "Old" does not mean anything - only quality counts!
