Nihonto Identification

Greetings everyone, 

 

Recently I've come to purchase an old beater blade for martial arts purposes, but I'm now I'm not entirely sure if it truly is a fake or a very botched nihonto. Given some of the confusing details, I hope someone more experienced could help ease my doubts on this piece.

Just a wild guess, but if I had to, I'd say real, but it's toast. Been messed with in horrible ways.
