Matsunoki Posted July 17, 2024 Report Posted July 17, 2024 Please forgive my lack of knowledge on papers. Please could you tell me - is this a genuine and reliable paper, is it Hozon or Tokubetsu Hozon and does it tell me any more about the blade (school??) other than just Sukemitsu? I have imaged it with light behind as it appears to have two watermarks. The blade is a very attractive hirazukuri wakizashi with bohi in an old s/s but also with a lovely quality koshirae Many thanks. Best. Colin Quote
nulldevice Posted July 17, 2024 Report Posted July 17, 2024 The parenthesis portion says "Den Shimada" attributing this Sukemitsu to the Shimada school. The certificate is a Hozon certificate. These contain some small security features noted in another NMB thread:https://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/49197-new-nbthk-origami-security-feature-question/ 1 1 Quote
Scogg Posted July 17, 2024 Report Posted July 17, 2024 Hi Colin, Ill wait for the more experienced to answer your translation questions. What I am able to answer, is that these are Hozon papers, not TokuHo The easiest way for me to tell the difference is the top left punched out area. I got this image from this link: http://www.nihontocr...se_sword_papers.html All the best, -Sam 1 1 Quote

The blade was registered in June 1952, so someone thought enough of it to get the paperwork sorted very early on. 1 1 Quote

Bugyotsuji Posted July 18, 2024 Report Posted July 18, 2024 None of the Hozon numbers featured above start with a 3, Lewis, and the paperwork is June of Heisei 25, not 1952, or am I missing something? Quote

I was referring to the printed number in the top right corner of the papers ie No 3003067). The Shinsa was Heisei 25 but the original registration papers were from 1952 if I'm not mistaken (from info within the box bottom left). 1 Quote
