Attached is a gunto that most would call fake on first glance. Nice example, I’m seeing more and more mixed koshirae with tsuba being modern repro. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted Tuesday at 02:18 PM Author Report Posted Tuesday at 02:18 PM This could have gone on the Leather Cover discussion, but it's more a "fittings" issue, so posting here. Fuchi made for swords, both civil and military, that are fitted with the combat saya can vary. Most are plain or have 'dots'. @Marcin found this one on Jauce. I think I've seen one in the one in the past, but not sure. It's really well done, and different than the norm, so thought I'd post it for viewing pleasure. 3 1 Quote
Ni85Hao Posted 18 hours ago Report Posted 18 hours ago I own a Japanese military sword Hello everyone, this is my first time posting on the forum. Last year, I won a Japanese military sword through a Japanese auction website, though its sword fittings were incomplete. I subsequently hired an expert to restore and refinish them, and this is how it looks now. I have only seen this style of sword fittings once before in an old post shared by another member. I suspect this is a prototype Type 98 military sword fitting set, or a custom-made mounting. I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts on this.of this model. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted 11 hours ago Author Report Posted 11 hours ago It would be nice to know which of the fittings you had originally, and which were the new constructs, thanks. We have two other examples of that kabutogane (end cap on handle). One posted by @robinalexander on page 1 of this thread, and the other, on the same page by @PNSSHOGUN. John's Rob's 1 Quote

I found set of T98 - crude, yet even small seppa [last one from koiguchi side] is present. Nakago-ana wasn't fully cut or was cut for specific slim blade. Quote
