dimitri Posted May 14, 2023 Report Posted May 14, 2023 Hello everyone, I saw on an auction site a lot of 3 wakizashi, 2 would be signed but there is only one in the picture, my question would be to know if it is worth it or not after polishing process move physically and participate in auctions, I have a chance to live only 75km away. Being an avid collector but a little too new to my taste in terms of kanji and especially to recognize blade styles, I prefer to ask you to have a kind of expertise by members. Thank you very much in advance. Dimitri Quote
francois2605 Posted May 14, 2023 Report Posted May 14, 2023 I'm not sure that's worth it from an economical point of view. Let's say, you end up buying the lot. Then you need to pay for a new polish and a new shirasaya to preserve your newly polished sword. This is expense. I paid 700 euros for a shirasaya (for a very long and curved gendaito last year). The polish will be even more expensive, the price is variable (depending on who will do the work) but it's probably at least 15-20 euros per cm. Will this cost increase the value of your sword ? A little but you won't be able to get most of your money back. How much are you willing to invest in your wakizashi ? There are usually good offers in the For Sale section here, I'm pretty sure it'll much cheaper to buy from a seller here than going the Drouot route. 1 Quote
dimitri Posted May 14, 2023 Author Report Posted May 14, 2023 Thank you for this point of view dear compatriot, yes I have a katana awaiting polishing and yes it is 20euros per cm. it was to know, it is enough that the signature is worth the trouble and that the lot is low during the sale, that is why I asked the question. Thanks again François, I'll move on. 1 Quote
