Winchester Posted January 22, 2023 Report Posted January 22, 2023 Friends, I am thinking about buying this tanto, very likely. Just curious what the translation reads. Thanks in advance for your help and sorry my photo skills are not the best--may have to zoom. Thank you Quote
k morita Posted January 22, 2023 Report Posted January 22, 2023 Drawn by Tan'yu,88 years old. Tan'yu died at the age of 72 years old.... Possibly a painting of Daruma(Bodhidharma). 2 1 Quote
Geraint Posted January 23, 2023 Report Posted January 23, 2023 Dear Brian. From the distortionat the mouth of the kodzuka and the fact that the lettering seems raised I would suspect a pressed piece and therefore of no great interest. Not neccessarily a problem for your purchase as another could easily be used should you choose to do so. More important, what's the blade like and how about the other one in the show case? Let us know what happens. All the best. 1 Quote
Winchester Posted January 23, 2023 Author Report Posted January 23, 2023 Thank you for the translation. I really appreciate it as well as the additional commentary. The blade is really nice and while there have been many smiths with this name, the signature appears to check out. I was not able to get a lot more information at the time, no fault of seller nor mine. Planning on reviewing the collection in the next month or two and taking lots of photos. Quote
