Is this a hex nut on the end of the guard!?! My type 19s do not look like this. Can someone help verify this before I buy it, I need a Japanese police type 19 in my collection but this seems off.

John,

I don't follow the Type 19s much, but this is a Police Superintendent sword.  Are they common?  If not, it might be worth a buy for something as high-level as this.

That’s what I’m thinking going off the hilt scroll work alone…guy wants 400 for it but the end nut looks like joe bob forced a hex nut on the hilt on the back of his Chevy…

That could always be yanked off and the nakago post peened - of course AFTER you get a good look at the nakago, and post pictures!

You think it’s worth 400?

Ha, well, that's something only you can answer!  Standard Type 19 dress swords run more like $250.  And like I said, I don't follow the dress sword market, so it's your call.  If you're not planning to re-sell, and it's something you'd appreciate having in your collection, then maybe the price is worth it.  I've overpaid for a couple of mine.  But that was years ago, and the money is almost forgotten, but I'm sure glad I have those sword, today.  Heck, make an offer.
