colonelbrocard Posted September 25, 2022 Report Posted September 25, 2022 Hi ! I am looking for information and a dating of this Japanese sword which seems old Thanks a lot for your help Quote
Misconstrued Posted September 25, 2022 Report Posted September 25, 2022 To get a clearer estimate on how old it is, please try and take off the handle to expose the tang. Also don't clean this sword, don't try and clean rust off it, just don't attempt to clean it in anyway. This could destroy patina and the blade itself depending on what you do. ROKUJURO Posted September 25, 2022 Report Posted September 25, 2022 Mathieu, please show all photos tip upwards, especially if there is a signature on the NAKAGO. And please bear in mind that age is not as important in swords as quality and condition, so avoid touching the blade with your bare fingers to avoid corrosion. Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted September 26, 2022 Report Posted September 26, 2022 Mathieu, This peg holds the handle to the blade. The end you see is likely the fatter end, so it must be tapped/pushed out from the other side. The other side is hidden under the wrap, so simply push gently under the wrap to tap it out The handle and handguard should easily slide off the blade at that point. Sometimes they are stuck with grime and/or a little rust. Don't let that bother you. Simply wiggle the handguard and/or tap it some, and everything will eventually break loose. 5 Quote
