Nicholas Posted July 23, 2022 Report Posted July 23, 2022 Can anyone point me in the direction for some information on this smith. I believe it reads masayuki. Not sure of the date. Quote
Nicholas Posted July 24, 2022 Author Report Posted July 24, 2022 Thanks Ray. Do you think this might be this swordsmith MAS1457 or is it a unlisted smith Quote
Ray Singer Posted July 24, 2022 Report Posted July 24, 2022 Hi Nick, I don't know which Masayuki this is. Best regards, Ray Quote

Do you think this might be this swordsmith MAS1457 or is it a unlisted smith According to Markus Sesko's Swordsmiths of Japan, Ikeda Masayuki (MAS1457) was born in 1938, and your blade doesn't look like it was made by a toddler ;-) It was probably made by Miwa Masayuki (see here for a matching oshigata): Quote MASAYUKI (正行), Shōwa (昭和, 1926-1989), Gifu – “Masayuki” (正行), real name Miwa Tomoo (三輪友雄), born August 8th 1895, he worked in Seki as guntō smith. Nicholas Posted July 24, 2022 Author Report Posted July 24, 2022 Thanks I didn’t see any other showa era swordsmiths by that name. I took a shot in the dark. Thanks for the info. 14 minutes ago, xiayang said: According to Markus Sesko's Swordsmiths of Japan, Ikeda Masayuki (MAS1457) was born in 1938, and your blade doesn't look like it was made by a toddler It was probably made by Miwa Masayuki (see here for a matching oshigata): Quote
