Jim W Posted June 10, 2022 Report Posted June 10, 2022 Team, I inherited this from a friend whose father brought it home from WW2. I have looked online, and "think" this is a naval prison sword; but any information would be appreciated. I haven't tried to take it apart, as the slots in the screws are very shallow, and I don't want to damage anything. I don't see any markings on it, or the scabbard which has 2 rings If there are other areas that a photo would help, please let me know and I will post them. Thanks in advance! Quote
ribendao Posted June 10, 2022 Report Posted June 10, 2022 Could be a naval prison sword or a police patrol man's sword also. A picture of the backstrap of the handle would be helpful. Quote
Jim W Posted June 10, 2022 Author Report Posted June 10, 2022 Thank you for the reply, is this the view you wanted? Quote
ribendao Posted June 10, 2022 Report Posted June 10, 2022 Yes, but unfortunately I am not seeing any distinguishing features. Typically the naval ones will have an engraving of an anchor and the police ones will have the department's badge/crest. I used to have one like yours, without any markings on the back strap. Im not sure to whom they were issued. 1 Quote
Jim W Posted June 13, 2022 Author Report Posted June 13, 2022 Bump to see if there is anyone that may know, Thanks! Quote
Bruce Pennington Posted June 13, 2022 Report Posted June 13, 2022 Dawson's book has something similar, though not an exact example. Pre-WWII there were many variations of all these western-styled swords. This seems to fall into the Police and seargeant style #4 in Dawson's classification. Quote
