DRICKS Posted February 9, 2022 Report Posted February 9, 2022 Hi, it's been awhile since on was on the forum and was trying to get some information on Gunsui blade and fittings. If I remember maker was Kane Kuni or Kane Kune . I lost the pictures of the signature but have pictures of the sword. Thank you Quote
kyushukairu Posted February 10, 2022 Report Posted February 10, 2022 The kashira depicts daruma, and the fuchi bears a gold seal with the kanji “Tō´u” (東雨), which was the gō of Tsuchiya Yasuchika. Quote
DRICKS Posted February 10, 2022 Author Report Posted February 10, 2022 I'm not knowledgeable about proper names and meanings. What would that mean in layman's terms. I believe the sword was made 1939 era and I know it is gunsui steel but are the fittings from that time frame or older? Thank you for the help. Also the handle wrapping has a hard black substance on it. Is that for waterproofing? Quote
PNSSHOGUN Posted February 10, 2022 Report Posted February 10, 2022 Hi Dail, if it is a Gunsui-To, it would've likely been in military mounts. I suspect it was remounted at some point after the war. Quote
DRICKS Posted February 10, 2022 Author Report Posted February 10, 2022 When I showed the tang on another forum years ago they said it was a gunsui military blade by Kane Kune or Kane Kuni but they didn't reply on the era of the fittings. I still have the sword and will dig it out of the safe latter and take photos of the tang. Thank you 1 Quote
DRICKS Posted February 10, 2022 Author Report Posted February 10, 2022 I posted pictures of the tang on translation page. I think it's the same sword but I didn't tag the pictures so not sure. Thank you for the replys. Quote
