pcfarrar Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 A friend owns this wakizashi signed Aoki Taira Motonaga we can't figure out which generation it could be or if its real? I thought it could possibly be the shodai - MOTONAGA AOKI [bUNKA 1804 OWARI] SHINSHINTÔ CHÛJÔSAKU the mei has similarities to the one pictured in Fujishiro. I've also found a few oshigata that have the exact same style of yasurimei. It is a very nice ko wakizashi with and active suguha hamon. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks, Peter Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 That really has some deep yasuri. I looked at the Fujishiro Motonaga oshigata and the only difference is the second kanji in Aoki. The rest match pretty well like you said. I didn't know there were further generations of Aoki Motonaga and that would make this shodai and saishu. John Quote
pcfarrar Posted March 8, 2009 Author Report Posted March 8, 2009 Hi John, Thanks for your help. I think there are 3 generations in total. It does seem to be a close match for the shodai. Peter Quote
John A Stuart Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 Here is what is in the Toko Taikan. The oshigata there matches well. The other entry has no oshigata to compare. I have no ref. to 3 gens though. John Quote
Jacques Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 Hi, Below an oshigata from the shodai. I don't think it's this one. Quote
pcfarrar Posted March 9, 2009 Author Report Posted March 9, 2009 Are there any examples of the nidai or sandai mei? I can't find any examples in my books :? Quote
Jacques Posted March 9, 2009 Report Posted March 9, 2009 Hi, The oshigata shown in Fujishiro and Toko taikan are from the same blade, however in Fujishiro, it's about the shodai and in the Toko Taikan, about the nidai. Quote
