Tonkotsu Posted September 22, 2020 Report Posted September 22, 2020 Here is a sculpture by Masatsune (late 19th century) a naturalistically cast bronze hawk perched with wings drawn in as it looks down with an intense expression in search of prey, poised to take flight. The raptor with details on the face rendered in gilt, silver and shakudo, signed in a rectangular plaque Masatsune chu, on a wood base. This signature was used by Masatsune Kimura (1868-1912), a well-known Meiji period Japanese bronze sculptor specializing in Birds. H-12” Quote
John A Stuart Posted September 22, 2020 Report Posted September 22, 2020 I wonder how many casts were made in the run of this hawk, could it be later than Meiji period? A later edition? Rodin had foundries casting well after his death and the premium was always for pieces cast during his life. I would like to have this guy perched somewhere in the house. John Quote
