Hi
A question regarding an NBTHK certificate, and can anyone translate the characters what they mean.
Why are there signs with a square on the NBTHK Certificate.

Specifically, the empty square indicates one kanji that is completely unreadable (this may be seen when a nakago is damaged or where a portion of the mei has been obliterated by corrosion). 

 

Perhaps 'Oshu ju Masanaga' originally. Look into the Aizu smiths in your research
