piryohae3 Posted November 14, 2019 Report Posted November 14, 2019 Is participation in the annual competition mandatory? Rick Polland of swordstore.com says that Yoshindo Yoshihara sells swords that he makes outside of Japan. Can anyone confirm? https://www.quora.com/Who-are-the-best-katana-makers-in-the-world Has anyone commissioned a shinsakuto through swordstore.com? I can only find reviews from 10+ years ago. Quote
Ken-Hawaii Posted November 14, 2019 Report Posted November 14, 2019 Yoshindo Yoshihara is a Mukansa smith, & no longer has to compete. I met him in Los Angeles years ago, but don't know whether he actually forges outside Tokyo. Quote
jeremy Posted November 15, 2019 Report Posted November 15, 2019 I'm not sure about yoshindo selling outside of Japan, I can't comment on that. I've bought a couple of shinsakuto over the years from swordstore and a steel iaito. I think he only deals with the Kimura smiths in Kumamoto. I had only one bad and two good experiences buying these swords. if you want to know more PM me Quote
