terminus Posted June 12, 2019 Report Posted June 12, 2019 Saw a photo of part of this gorgeous lacquered tsuba by Shibata Zeshin. I know he rarely did tsubas, and most were wood with lacquer so mostly art pieces and not exactly in the normal "tosogu" realm we talk about. However I was hoping perhaps someone has more photos of this gorgeous Japanese Beetle tsuba? Source: https://43749831.at.webry.info/201112/article_3.html 3 Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted June 12, 2019 Report Posted June 12, 2019 Beautiful, I have had the pleasure of handling a number of these over the years. Zeshin's ability to mimic other materials in lacquer is uncanny, the perfect illusion is broken only when you take the piece in hand. -S- 1 Quote
