vajo Posted March 10, 2019 Report Posted March 10, 2019 What you think about this tsuba? https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/25724 3 Quote
TETSUGENDO Posted March 10, 2019 Report Posted March 10, 2019 It's a nice decorative 19th century tsuba, Christian's 'trixter' reference eludes me as it doesn't look as if its pretending to be anything else.....perhaps he will expound further. -S- 1 Quote

TETSUGENDO Posted March 10, 2019 Report Posted March 10, 2019 Thanks Brian I noticed that, but I suspect Christian's choice of "Till Eulenspiegel" may hold additional meaning. -S- Quote
vajo Posted March 10, 2019 Author Report Posted March 10, 2019 I search a long time to discover this motif. I have a similar looking tsuba. And there is a picture of a kozuka on the book of Otto Kümmel. I think it shows a southern namban, playing a flagelot. Look at his cloth and the style of the sitting dog. Btw such dogs didn't exist in Japan. Its a cocker spaniel or something else. 1 Quote
