Hi

I have this box with a part translated box

It would be nice to know the date but I more interested if anyone recognises the kao

No red stamp so it maybe no one of note

More like the following.

Guessing at the year, but the 4 is clear enough, and having a date that starts with 4 can only mean Meiji or Shōwa. I think I looked at this earlier and was slightly bothered because the year isn't written clearly enough for me to say definitively either Meji or Showa (or anything else, for that matter), but my guess is Shōwa 46 (Meiji only goes up to 44)

元旦 together as a compound word means New Year's Day. (Not origin + new year's day).

I really wanted to put a tsuba in this recently purchase box that matched the description

With help from a member of the NMB who wasn’t 100% confident of his translation so I sent it to a Japanese friend living in Japan who indepentdantly came up with the an almost identical translation

I found an ideal match for the box with a tsuba I posted on the earlier wabi sabi post
