Nobody Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 This is my guess. Saotome Iehisa (早乙女家久). FYI; Stibbert Museum Collection 0033 http://www.picure.l.u-tokyo.ac.jp/arc/s ... /0033.html Quote
IanB Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Without revealing Moriyama San's spoiler, you might like to know that there were a couple of smiths using this name. One worked in Kai and Sagami around the end of the 16th century, possibly for the Takeda family. The second, around the mid Edo in Hitachi province. The way the first kanji is written indicates that this helmet is by the second of these two. See Kei Kaneda Chappelear's book, Japanese Armour Makers for the Samurai. Ian Bottomley Quote
Bugyotsuji Posted May 19, 2008 Report Posted May 19, 2008 Look at that! It's wonderful to see the rivets, and the signature so clearly. Brings it all really close and the time distance rapidly erodes. Nice photo! Quote
