Study Wakizashi

Good afternoon all,

I have been debating listing a wakizashi I have for sale for the past year, but decided it's time to let go. It was my first nihonto and a good point of reference to start study. I used this sword to figure out what terminology actually translated to when I was reading books.

The sword is a Shinto or Shinshinto wakizashi, mumei, made in imitation of an older Koto sword. The sword is in an older but good polish. There is some very minor ware on the shinogiji, two small chips just past the hamachi and a small spot of umegane an inch from the kissaki. As expected there are a few light striations. Makes it all sound pretty awful, but it really is a quality sword, not one of the cheap wakizashi you see on ebay by the dozens. I'd rather be honest about these things up front, since I've felt that gnawing frustration when items have not been completely as described.

Blade only.

Measurements are as follows;

Nagasa 50cm

Nakago 14.5cm

Kissaki 4cm

Mihaba 3cm

Kasane 0.6cm

Sori 1.5cm

There is an abundance of activity to see in the hamon and just gorgeous jihada. I imagine the sword would be a good starting point for someone who wanted to have a polished sword at a reasonable price.

I really don't know what price range the sword would fall in. Rubbish on ebay seems to hit $4-500 unpolished so I'm asking $850 US shipped. For an extra $25 I'll include the gunto habaki it came with.

I don't know if this is a reasonable asking price since I've never sold a sword, so if a regular trader could give me feedback that would be greatly appreciated.

Got a little swamped. Bump.

I am after comments on price to please! Is this a fair asking price? I honestly don't know. Thanks.

Hi Steve,

The small flaws aside, I think that you have an excellent quality blade for the money there, it's just that it's tricky to sell mumei wakizashi.

Best,

John
