BenVK Posted July 29, 2016 Report Posted July 29, 2016 Am I correct in saying that this old blade has had the nakago altered for Kyu-Gunto mounts? Thanks Ben Quote
Geraint Posted July 29, 2016 Report Posted July 29, 2016 Hi Ben. Looks like you are right about the nakago shape, more specifically for a parade sabre. For a good example go here, http://www.japanesesword.com/ then to sold items then down about 19 entrys or so for a Murata to with the same treatment. What a shame about the rest of the blade. Any hope for this one? All the best. Quote
BenVK Posted July 29, 2016 Author Report Posted July 29, 2016 Thanks Geraint, that Murata is an interesting blade with it's Kogarasu Zukuri shape which I like a lot. There's a beautiful example of that style in the forum for sale section but I can't afford it! Here some more photos of the one above. It's seen better days but might be worth saving, there's no major damage that I can see. Quote

All the best. they were not modified to be used as "dress sword" parade is a miss conception. about 95% of all dress swords have the threaded nut hammer over, so without using mechanical means they do not come apart. the treaded nut is to serve as a secondary to the meguki. it was still meant to used as a weapon, there was a hizen blade in Tokyo that was in great polish some years back. 1 Quote
