mywei Posted July 17, 2016 Report Posted July 17, 2016 Hi everyone, Have made an attempt at this Tanobe sayagaki. Would like another set(s) of more expert eyes to see to double check Naginata naoshi mumei nari Doko Norishige mon to den no (This smith was a student of Norishige) Honsaku ha kuromi aru ooitame ga hadatachi (This work has blackish oo-itame with hadatachi) Jinie atsuku Chikei hairi (Thick jinie with chikei) Hamon ha ko-notare ni gunome wo maji e (Hamon is ko-notare mixed with gunome) Nie nioi hukaku atsuku (Nie and nioi are deep and thick) Shikashite sunagashi, kinsuji kakari (and there are sunagashi and kinsuji) Jiba ni nie-deki no myou wo orinashi (Forging is interwoven with superb nie-deki) Norishige kishitsu ga ukagaishiru (The temperament of Norishige can be perceived) Masa ni ?tokoro den no shukou saruru yuhin nari - unsure of exact translation or pronounciation Nagasa ni shaku san sun go bun (Nagasa 71.2cm) Cheers, 1 Quote
Surfson Posted July 18, 2016 Report Posted July 18, 2016 As far as I can tell, you did very well. Farther than I would have gotten without a lot of work. Well done! Quote
SteveM Posted July 18, 2016 Report Posted July 18, 2016 Dōkō Norishige mon to tsutau (This smith is said to have been a student of Norishige) Masa ni shoden no shukōsaruru yūhin nari A superb work that we can be sure is as claimed (in other words, we can be sure this was done by a student of Norishige) I think are the words on the saya. Nowadays I think people would say I echo Robert's words above. You've done extremely well. Quote
The somewhat archaic Japanese on sayagakis always provide a (fun) challenge for me! Thanks again Quote
